Are you considering taking your gardening to the next level by buying a greenhouse? With the hope of saving you some time, I researched the top rated greenhouse kits and present them below.
There are a lot of benefits to investing in one. A major advantage is you can grow your favorite crops virtually all year long.
Additionally, those you are growing are better protected from weather and pests than if you grew them in a traditional garden-or even your container garden. Think of the money you will save and the flavor you will gain back by growing your own fruit and vegetables-AND they are much more likely to make it to harvest in a greenhouse!
In this article, we reviewed five of the best home greenhouse kits on the market. We looked at size, ease of construction, the material used to construct them and what reviewers had to say.
The Strong Camel Greenhouse is 12 feet long by 7 feet wide by 7 feet tall. It is a walk in greenhouse that does not come with shelves. The benefit of this is you can set it up exactly the way YOU want to set it up. The frame is made out of powder coated steel to ensure durability.
The cover is a green checkered plastic that offers UV protection. The door is zippered and rolls up for convenience .There are even 6 mosquito netting windows for ventilation.
The frame is constructed of 0.6mm powder coated steel. Some reviewers suggest using stronger guy ropes to ensure the greenhouse stays secure in place during inclement weather. One reviewer raves the Strong Camel withstood historical floods and wind in Houston.
The Palram Mythos Hobby Greenhouse is the only solid sided greenhouse we approved. It is 7 feet high, 6 feet wide and 4 feet deep. This walk in greenhouse is made out of a rust resistant aluminum frame and offers a total of 24 feet of growing space.
The cover is made out of 4 mm twin wall polycarbonate panels which are almost unbreakable. Additionally, these panels block out 99.9 percent of UV rays and diffuse the sunlight preventing your plants from burning. The roof has an adjustable vent. There are rain gutters and a lockable door handle as well. The rain gutters are set up so you can collect the rain if you wish.
Palram also offers a five year limited warranty and customer service is based in the US so you can contact them anytime for questions and/or issues. Installation does not require special tools.
The incredibly happy reviewers state the Palram greenhouse is “sturdy and rugged”, “fantastic”, “awesome” and might be one of the best green houses out there.
The walk-in Quictent Mini Portable Greenhouse is 77 inches high, 56 inches wide and 29 inches deep. There are six mesh tier shelves giving you lots of places to put your plants. The clear PVC cover has two zippers and a strap to hold the door in place so you can easily access your plants.
The frame is made out of heavy duty powder coated steel. It is easy to set up and since it only weighs 20 pounds, can be moved fairly easily. (We do recommend you empty it out first though!) A reviewer does state no tools were needed to set this greenhouse up.
One reviewer mentions although she loves her greenhouse, it did take some elbow grease to put together. Another reviewer stated it needs tie-downs due to wind. Yet another happy reviewer said she successfully grew tomatoes in Alaska in her Quictent greenhouse.
The Ogrow Deluxe Walk-in Greenhouse is 77 inches high, 56 inches wide and 56 inches deep. It is a walk-in two tiered greenhouse with eight shelves that are each 22.5 inches x 13.5 inches.
The cover is a heavy-duty green reinforced polyethylene. This green diffuses the sunlight protecting your plants from the direct sun. The front door zips up and has ties to stay in place for ease of access and ventilation.
The frame is made out of powder coated steel for durability. Take note, this model does not come with guy wires or stakes for anchoring to the ground. Additionally, the review mentions there are windows on either side of the greenhouse but the reviewers’ state that is not the case.
The shelves are not fastened to the frame either so you may want to tie them. This is actually a benefit because if you have taller crops (such as tomatoes), you can easily remove a shelf or two to accommodate that plant.
The Green Garden House Walk in Greenhouse is 56 inches wide, 56 inches deep and 77 inches high. This portable, walk-in greenhouse is meant to be a seed starter greenhouse. It is lightweight but made out of heavy duty powder coated steel frame.
The clear 130 gram transparent PVC plastic canopy with green net is zippered for easy roll up and removability. The shelves are removable in case you need the extra room for taller plants.
The assembly is easy with all necessary hardware already included.
A reviewer stated he used the Green Garden House to maintain his edible tower garden during the winter. He was happily eating strawberries in January and leafy greens all winter long. A Colorado based reviewer warns there are no tie downs and his cover keeps trying to blow off-even with big rocks holding it down.
Finding the top rated greenhouse kits is a tough search. There are many that are just not well constructed. Additionally, if you are short on space like many of our reviewers that makes the hunt even more difficult.
We recommend you first decide how much space you need, what you want to grow in your greenhouse and then ponder the typical weather in your area. That should help you narrow down your choices. Keep in mind the larger the greenhouse you choose, the more likely the need for contacting your local municipality to discuss permits or zoning issues. Good luck on your hunt! You’re taking the first steps toward growing an abundance of yummy and healthy foods for your family.
